Our historyWe've been working with refractive surgery in more than 20 years. Our first clinic opened the doors in Oslo, Norway, 1990 under the name Norsk Synskirurgi. The founders were two refractive surgeons, Bjart Dysthe and Thor Brevik, both pioneers withing the field of refractive surgery in Scandinavia. Both are still actively working within Memira. They treated the first near sighted customer with eye laser in 1990 and were also first in correcting astigmatism with laser in 1994 and treating far sightedness in 1996. In 1998 Bjart and Thor, now joined by the danish refractive surgeon Per Julius Nielsen, open the first clinic in Aarhus, Denmark, and the company Dansk Synskirurgi is founded. Six years later, 2004, the swedish optometrist Jörgen Ringman start Opticare in cooperation with Bjart. And they open their first clinic in Uppsala, Sweden. In 2007 we had 20 clinics in Norway, Denmark and Sweden. During the autumn of 2007 the founders of the 3 nordic businesses decided to merge the companies in to one refractive surgery chain. Memira was born. Memira is loosely translated from spanish to "see me". In order to enable further expansion IGC, Investor Growth Capital, joins as part owners in Memira late 2007. Also in 2007 Memira introduces RLE, refractive lens exchange, a treatment for age related vision problems and FS-LASIK in order to further enhance the eye laser treatment possibilities. Technical development and high quality have always been core values enabling the rapid growth that has continued since the merger into Memira. In 2008 Memira acquires clinics in Germany through the purchase of the chain CityLasik. In 2008 Memira Clinical Advisory Board was founded in order to analyse clinical questions and development possibilities within Memira and to ensure the customer benefits in everything we do. In 2011 we have close to 50 clinics throughout northern Europe. We treat more than 10 000 customers each year. Our joint experience and knowledge throughout our clinics, in unison with the cooperation and effiecency of being a modern chain, gives us unique possibilities to expand and reach an ever growing customer base. Customers that now can get a simpler every day life. |
